The 1999 İzmit earthquake occured in northwestern Turkey on August 17 1999, 3:02a.m local time. The earthquake lasted for 37 seconds and had a magnitude of 7.4. The result of the earthquake left 17,000 people dead and approximately half a million people homeless and the city of Izmit badly damaged. The earthquake also caused a tsunami in the Sea of Marmara.
.
The spheres that are involved in this earthquake are the lithosphere, biosphere, and the hydrosphere. The lithosphere is involved because the tectonic plates are moving and colliding with other plates. With this, it results in the movement and damage of houses, buildings, and the landscape so biosphere is also involved. With the movement of the plates, it also caused the ocean to create a tsunami and damage the land, the hydrosphere and biosphere are interacting in this way. The lithosphere interacts with the biosphere and the hydrosphere because it caused changes in both the biosphere and the hydrosphere.
